Massachusetts Cannabis Sales Jump to $169.4M in June as State Markets Diverge

Massachusetts posted the week's biggest gain while Colorado, Illinois and Canada slipped, per newly filed state and provincial data.

Massachusetts cannabis retailers booked $169.4 million in sales for June, up from $156.2 million in May, the largest dollar increase among reporting markets this week. Adult-use sales accounted for $156.4 million of the total, with medical sales at $13 million. The state's average price per gram stood at $3.87 as of June.

Montana posted the sharpest percentage gain, with July sales rising to $29.7 million from $27.2 million in June, split between $27.1 million adult-use and $2.5 million medical. New Mexico also advanced, climbing to $49.8 million in July from $46.9 million the prior month, with $39.6 million from adult-use and $10.2 million medical.

Declines in the Larger Markets

Colorado sales fell to $105.1 million in April from $108.8 million in March, with adult-use contributing $96 million and medical $9.1 million. Illinois dipped to $262.2 million in June from $266.8 million in May, still one of the largest single-month totals among reporting states, with $236.3 million from adult-use and $25.9 million medical. Maryland slipped modestly to $103 million in June from $105.6 million in May.

Smaller markets showed mixed but generally steady trends. Connecticut rose to $25.6 million in July from $24.7 million in June, with $20.1 million adult-use and $5.6 million medical; the state also logged 908,491 products sold that month. Maine ticked up to $39.2 million in May from $38.4 million in April, nearly evenly split between $20.3 million adult-use and $18.9 million medical. Vermont edged higher to $13.3 million in May from $13 million in April.

International Snapshot

Canada's national sales came in at CAD 485 million for May, down from CAD 490.8 million in April, marking a second consecutive monthly pullback for the country's regulated market.

California, which reports on a quarterly basis rather than monthly, recorded $956.7 million in sales for the quarter beginning January 1, 2026 — underscoring the state's continued scale relative to monthly-reporting markets, though the figure is not directly comparable to the single-month totals cited above.

With state filings arriving on staggered lags — from April data in Colorado to July figures in Connecticut and Montana — the coming weeks should bring June and July updates from Colorado, Maryland, and Canada that will clarify whether this month's mixed picture, marked by Massachusetts's climb and softness in Illinois and Colorado, extends into summer trading.
