Origins Cannabis gains Washington license as market sees operator churn

Origins Cannabis has been licensed as a new cannabis operator in Washington, according to the state license roster updated August 12. The move comes on a day marked by significant operator churn: at least 12 existing Washington cannabis licenses—including those held by The Green Shelf, Stickys, Fillabong, Evolve Cannabis, and others—became inactive on the same date.

Washington's retail market remains substantial, with 482 open retail locations and 973 active cultivation licenses as of the update. The simultaneous entry of Origins and departure of a dozen operators suggests ongoing consolidation or turnover in the state's mature adult-use market, though without additional context on those closures' causes, the net effect on market capacity remains unclear.
