Genesis Farms receives retail license in South Dakota
New retail license marks expansion for cultivator already operating five medical grow sites across the state.
FILE — retail · My 420 Tours / CC BY-SA 4.0Genesis Farms has received a new retail license in South Dakota, according to state license records updated August 6. The operator already holds five active medical cannabis cultivation licenses across Aberdeen, Brookings, Huron, Mitchell, and Pierre, suggesting the retail authorization represents a vertical integration into the dispensary channel.
The licensing activity coincides with a significant wave of retail closures in the state. State records show twelve retail operations lost active status on the same date, including multiple Royzzz locations, Dakota Health and Wellness, Superior Buds, and others. South Dakota currently operates 52 active retail dispensaries and 30 cultivation sites under its medical-only framework.
The net effect of Genesis Farms' entry against the twelve simultaneous closures remains unclear without sales or market-share data. Watch whether Genesis Farms' retail license becomes operational and whether the consolidation pattern—established cultivators acquiring retail access—continues in the state's medical market.
