The move affects what appeared to be three active retail dispensary licenses in Rehoboth Beach, Smyrna, and Wilmington. The company's exit follows a wave of consolidation in Delaware's adult-use market, which generated $8 million in tax revenue in its first year of operation.
Delaware's retail footprint currently stands at 17 open dispensaries across the state, down from recent months as multistate operators reassess their regional portfolios. Cannabist Co., another major chain, commenced bankruptcy proceedings and exited Delaware in March 2026. Meanwhile, AYR Wellness received new retail licenses in the state on the same date Columbia Care's status changed, suggesting potential reallocation of market share among remaining operators.
The exit underscores tightening conditions for independent and smaller multistate retailers in maturing state markets. Delaware's cannabis regulatory environment remains active, with pending proposals including a 50,000-plant farm in Smyrna and evolving product restrictions. Monitor whether other multistate operators reduce or reallocate Delaware positions in coming months.
