Vermont Sales Jump 12% to $14.7M as Most State Cannabis Markets Slip
Vermont posted the week's lone double-digit monthly gain while Illinois, Michigan, Arizona and most other tracked states reported declines in filings spanning June through August 2026.

The move stood out against a broader pattern of monthly softness. Maine was the only other market to post a gain, with July 2026 sales edging up to $43.4M from $42.4M, split between $23.2M adult-use and $20.3M medical.
Large Markets Retreat
Illinois remained the largest state market tracked, posting $271.3M in August 2026 sales, down from $278.7M the prior month, with adult-use accounting for $245.5M and medical $25.8M. Michigan followed at $259.1M in August, down from $270.9M, with adult-use sales of $258.8M dwarfing medical's $0.3M.
Massachusetts sales fell to $156.6M in August from $161.5M, with adult-use at $144.9M and medical at $11.7M. Maryland dropped to $105.2M in August from $109M, while Colorado slipped to $105.6M in June from $107.5M, with adult-use of $96.6M and medical of $9M.
Arizona logged the steepest percentage decline among larger markets, falling to $90.2M in July 2026 from $97.6M — a drop of roughly 7.6% — with adult-use sales of $80.1M and medical at $10.1M. Oregon eased to $77.6M in August from $79.6M, and New Mexico fell to $47.4M in August from $49.8M.
Smaller markets also softened. Montana sales dipped to $28.9M in August from $29.7M, and Connecticut slid to $25M in August from $25.6M, with adult-use of $19.5M and medical of $5.5M.
California and International
California's most recent data arrived on a quarterly cadence rather than monthly, with sales of $1,013.2M for the quarter beginning April 1, 2026 — underscoring the state's scale even as most peer markets file monthly.
North of the border, Canada's cannabis sales totaled CAD $503.2M in July 2026, down from CAD $516.4M in June, continuing the month-over-month softening seen across much of the U.S. state landscape.
What to Watch
Reporting lags vary widely by state — Colorado's latest figures reflect June, Arizona, Maine and Vermont report July, and most others including Illinois, Michigan, Massachusetts, Maryland, Montana, New Mexico, Connecticut and Oregon report August — so month-over-month comparisons should be read with that lag in mind.
Ancillary metrics offer additional texture: Massachusetts' average price per gram stood at $3.87 as of June 2026, while Connecticut recorded 880,793 products sold in August 2026, both data points worth tracking as the sector heads into the fourth quarter.
